Girls Program: Empowering Female Athletes at LEAFS

NATIONAL BOUND GIRLS TEAM

Introduction

LEAFS is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural 16U girls team, building upon the success of its existing 14U girls team for the 2023-24 season. This exciting expansion allows LEAFS to provide competitive opportunities for talented young female hockey players. The girls will participate in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) in the 16U and 14U divisions, competing in tournaments nationwide. In addition, LEAFS will continue its 12U and with a potential 10U girls teams, offering a comprehensive program for aspiring athletes of all ages.

Eligibility & Selection Process

The 16U and 14U girls teams are open to players born in 2007-2010. As with any travel team at the West Dundee Hockey Club, the selection process for these teams will be based on factors such as numbers, skill level, and safety considerations. The goal is to create a competitive and balanced roster that fosters both individual growth and team success.

Training and Development

The 16U girls teams will have two full-ice practices per week, providing ample opportunity for skill development and team bonding. Additionally,  off-ice training and video will enhance the players' overall fitness, strength, and conditioning.

The 14U girls teams will have two full-ice practices per week, similar to the 16U girls team. Aditionally, bi-weekly skills sessions and off-ice training will enhance the players' overall fitness, strength, and conditioning.

These comprehensive training programs aim to elevate the players' skills, hockey IQ, and overall performance on the ice.

12U & 10U Girls Program

Integration of Younger Girls Teams with Co-Ed Teams

At our organization, we believe in fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment for all our players. In addition to our 16U and 14U Girls Teams, we are proud to offer 12U and 10U Girls Teams that provide younger female athletes with a platform to excel in the sport they love.

As part of our program, girls who participate in the 12U and 10U teams are required to dual-roster with the co-ed teams in their respective age divisions. This integration allows our female athletes to compete alongside their co-ed counterparts, promoting collaboration, respect, and teamwork.  Furthermore, we extend a warm welcome to girls who may be planning on being rostered on a co-ed team at another club. We believe that offering this opportunity for dual-rostering not only enhances skill development but also strengthens the bonds within the broader sporting community.

By joining forces with the co-ed teams, our girls have the opportunity to showcase their skills, develop strong bonds with teammates of all genders, and experience healthy competition in age-specific divisions. This approach not only enhances their hockey abilities but also provides valuable experiences that promote growth and inclusivity within the larger hockey community.

We are dedicated to supporting our girls' development both on and off the ice, and through this integration, we create an environment that celebrates diversity and empowers our players to reach their full potential.

Team Practices and Participation

The 12U and 10U girls teams follow a consistent training schedule throughout the year. Regular team practices focus on individual skill development, tactical understanding, and building strong team dynamics. These practices are designed to provide a nurturing and challenging environment where girls can excel and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
